Why Awareness Days can help you make great content.

Awareness Days began to do what they said on the tin, raise awareness for particular issues. Over the years the concept has grown massively, especially on social media with the ability to use hashtags.

These days there seems to be an awareness day for everything no matter how obscure. I really don’t recommend using them all directly in your posts as it can come across as naff there are still plenty of ways awareness days can help you create great content.

You don’t need to mention the awareness day at all in the content your creating if you don’t want to. For example, today is the 4th of December and on my awareness day calendar, it's “wear brown shoes” day. Pretty dull and obscure I think you will agree but it makes me think of muddy boots and in winter this makes a relatable topic of conversation for my rural clients. So I could ask about what boots people rely on to get them through working outside in the bad weather.

The idea that “Wear brown shoes” day sparks for me would be linked to muddy wellies.

 So you see you can simply use awareness days as a source of inspiration to spark an idea. I think that when using awareness days like this the fact that there are so many choices means you are never short of inspiration for your posts.

The nice thing about these indirect posts is they are not tied to the date of awareness itself so you can use them whenever you like, making it easy to fill any gaps in your content plan.

When you want to post topical content, this is when direct posts about an awareness day are appropriate. Knowing your audience is essential to know which days to use. By being selective about which days you discuss it will mean that when you do, you’re demonstrating that you understand which issues are important to your audience.

Finding the right awareness days to use can be quite time consuming. There are so many sites made in different countries My preferred list for doing research is days of the year.com but do remember to check as some dates differ especially between the UK and the USA, mothers and fathers day being a good example.
