Turning a Negative into a Positive

I had a “down day” the other day; I wasn’t feeling motivated. I had too many thoughts buzzing through my head and I just couldn’t see which thought to go with first.

Luckily I had my content planner all mapped out to help me still have something to post on my social media. My planner was inspired by something the lovely Kimba Cooper from Kimba Digital Marketing shared with those of us on her Instamind course. As fate would have it the topic for the day was a testimonial. Reading a review from a customer who valued my help, reminded me what I have achieved and why I love what I do.

My usual motivators when I need a bit of inspiration is to go to one of my favourite networking groups; hearing the ideas and enthusiasm of others always lifts me. I also love one to one meeting as I always find them good for creating brain food. Unfortunately for me on this occasion I couldn’t do either of these things as I was on mummy duty. Over the day though it got me thinking about other people feeling this way and how my actual business can be part of the solution to other people’s “down day.” Suddenly my negative mood had started to turn into a positive idea. I decided to turn what had just popped into my head into a live video for my Instagram @busykeysvirtual. This in itself was a milestone (I struggle to do video content and I’m not keen on seeing myself in front of the camera) but it was much easier with an idea to talk about that really meant something.

The live went quite well if I do say so myself! I was proud enough to share it to my other social media platforms and I was really pleased to find I got some really positive engagement back, including from new people! This had completely given me my motivational mojo back.

Having a down day is 100% normal and whilst many people don’t like to admit to having them. I hope my experience shows that if you embrace and acknowledge these moments they can actually turn into positive opportunities.

My down day eventually encouraged me to take a step out of my comfort zone and create something which in turn gave me the boost I needed.

It’s actually been quite a light bulb surprise moment for me what has snowballed from that down day.

So next time you feel a bit “meh” don’t mask it, see what embracing it for 5 minutes could lead you to. Like I said in my live ( which you can see on my FB Busy Keys virtual Assistant page or IGTV channel) “ We can’t feel the same everyday otherwise we wouldn’t recognise them as feelings.”
